Review ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU

I am really satisfied I waited to purchase the 1005HA. I truly thought the 10.5 battery life was just a claim, but charged at %100 my battery life clocked in 10.5 hours just as promised! The touchpad feels great, the boot up was fast, keyboard feels comfortable, and the screen is good. The design is sleek and beautiful. Weighing only about 3 pounds, this won't destroy my back when I carry it around in my backpack.

It's running Photoshop, Acrobat, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PowerISO, and OpenOffice (just for grins) no problem.
The included sleeve is TSA-friendly. Just drop it on the belt in the sleeve and go. The USB ports are full power (thus a USB-powered external hard drive only needs one port to function, unlike many desktops where the power to the USB ports is actually shared between two, thus requiring two USB power connections to power the external drive).

I have had the netbook for less than 1 week, here is my experience so far:

1) PASS - Upgraded from XP Home to XP Professional using external dvd drive. No problems, just popped in the the XP Pro cd while Windows Home was running and selected "Upgrade".
2) PASS - Upgraded to 2 Gb ram with recommended memory from Amazon. Easy.
3) PASS - Ability to "ghost" the netbook for backup of hard drive and cloning another identical netbook. I used Norton Ghost 14 to create the image on an external hard drive, then used the Norton boot cd using an external dvd drive to restore to a second Asus 1005HA (the replacment unit).
4) PASS - 720p mkv video files play off the hard drive or over WiFi-N with about 60% cpu usage, very watchable. Smaller size videos (640x352) play even smoother.
5) PASS - Screen is bright and large enough. Once I configured Firefox to always run full screen mode (no toolbars), surfing was no problem with plenty of screen real estate.
6) PASS - Battery life is amazing, used the laptop in "Super Performance Mode" for over 6 hours of watching videos, checking email, connecting with USB Verizon broadband card, and still had battery life leftover.
