Reviews

I bought mine from Apple Store the day it was released as Amazon didn't have it yet.

Processor - When compared to my 3 week old Early 2011 edition there I barely experience any difference in performance (2.3 GHz v/s 2.4 GHz).

Hard disk - The new editions gives you more hard disk space (500GB instead of 320GB) but time has taught me never to trust an internal hard disk. I always use a backup hard disk to store important files at all times. So, the hard disk capacity really doesn't matter to me.

Issues I have encountered so far on the Late 2011 Edition (new one):

Fan noise: The fan made a constant hissing noise in the background. So, I took it back to the apple store and they narcissist genius bar staff) fixed it by resetting the fan at boot up.
(Beware, their staff could send you back making you feel that only they know what a computer is. I had the staff telling me older version did not make the fan noise cause it is a "different" computer. Yeah, of course smarty pants "fix it now")

Software - Compared to the early 2011 edition I did see inbuilt applications crashing and it prompted me to send the report to Apple (which I promptly did).I think this will happen to any new version of computer/phone released and I need to wait for the next set of updates to have all of this fixed. I will be patient for few months.

Overall,at this point I feel for 100 bucks more you will get a newer hardware but it is not drastically different and you will not miss anything if you want to save some money and want to stick with the Early 2011 edition.

Review Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A

The best thing going for Mac computers is OS X. I'll use Windows in business applications, Linux in programming applications and for personal matters I'll use what is important to me for photos & videos. That is OS X. At first I thought of getting an inexpensive net book, but its crippled in capability and doesn't have a DVD slot drive.

This 13.3" MacBook Pro has sufficient power for photo and casual video editing. It has a small foot print that is thin, light weight and very quiet. True, Apple charges a premium for this laptop, but it is really no more than $200 for what you get. So there is a premium for modern industrial design.

There are very few laptops like this MacBook Pro which can offer the following for this price and features, namely:

1 much better lcd screen! inline with the pro models...still glossy and still some glare but much nicer!
2 new Snow Leopard Operating System comes pre-installed! Same great ease of use with much faster performance!
3 backlight keyboard on all 13" models now! ( i really enjoy this as it can be controlled from low to high)
4 SD card slot accepts SDHC, which goes up to 32GB and works like a charm. (can boot from SD card as well)
5 Good resolution 1200 x 800 13.3" display and video card can drive a 30" monitor 2560x1600 at full resolution.
6 LED back lighting display with a very good color gamut for 13.3" display.
7 High quality construction, fit & finish.
8 Excellent mouse tracking feature.
9 1066 MHz front side bus.
10 battery life is significantly better than last year.( i get about 6 hours w/ regular use not the 7hrs that is reported)
11. Long life lithium polymer battery, greater than 5 hours, and excellent heat dissipation.
12 the computer is designed beautifully truly a head turner.
13 iLife 09 suite is superb for pictures, movies, and music. Good software really does sell hardware.
14 finally a price cut with a performance upgrade! i knew apple could do it. i was tired of paying for aesthetics and not performance.
