I set this computer up on a home network, and was pleasantly surprised at the ease if was to operate, once I configured the display so I could read it. Streaming video via internet was smooth. Downloaded and installed all new updates in about 15 minutes.

The keyboard is solid, easy enough to navigate. The touchpad is a little different, solid plastic, not LCD. So I did install a wireless mouse to make it easier for Mom to surf. She's having fun learning what all the new little icons stand for on Win 7 Home Premium, instead of the older XP. Still prefers the old look of Solitaire over this one.

Overall, with the included features, like the DVD/CD burner, 3 USB ports, the built-in webcam, 250 GB hard drive, built-in card reader, and wireless networking, I'm pleased with this computer. and Mom loves it, too.

I have got this HP notebook due to the software I need to use. I usually use Mac and like its stability and smoothness. When I used windows (it was windows Me and XP) years ago, it was not really a good experience... But this time is different. Windows 7 works solid and reliable. The machine is fast enough for its price, and I was surprised how light it weighs. If you carry your computer around, this is nice. You cannot complain about this machine since it deserves credit for its functionality, reliability and the price cost. For average user like me, this is good.

Transition from XP to Windows 7 was intuitive. The new taskbar is my favorite improvement. Followed by much better graphic interface and widgets. Some of my XP software causes Windows 7 to turn off Aero mode. I feel that windows has caught up with Apple in terms of graphics and workflow.

As far as laptop is concerned, Dave from Portland has a great review comparing the different models available on Amazon. The DV6-1354US is sufficient for me to use Adobe Photoshop and Audition, as well as multitask.

I will never go to a laptop again without a numeric keypad, this was an unexpected plus. I do miss the old HP media controls above the keyboard. They are replaced now by a volume and wireless control. I like that they are no longer buttons but touch sensitive surfaces above the keyboard.

The DV6 is quieter and cooler than my old HP. The power cord is beefier, which was always a problem with my old HP. Although I would prefer a magnetic power cord like Apple offers. Compared to other manufacturers, I would have to say that HP has the best price for great, reliable hardware.

Everything is a wonderful improvement except for the sound. Frequently, friends would ask where the music was coming from when I used my old DV1000. I felt that the sound was very rich for such a small system. I find the DV6 to have a much shallower, smaller sound that finds trouble filling a bedroom.

This monitor has a great picture and works flawlessly with my MacBook. The 16:9 aspect is perfect for watching DVDs and hulu.com. The design is slick and modern, and the glossy screen is vibrant. For under $150.00 how can you go wrong?

The built in speakers are a little quiet, but better than my notebook's built in speakers.

The speakers are fine with me, just what i was looking for. wasnt planning on watching a movie anyways. just wanted to get rid of the external speakers i had to use. the screen is glossy, so the glare can be an issue if your lights reflect at the wrong angles. The 16:9 ratio, double windows is a plus that i wasn't looking for, but programs like photoshop do allow for more room without the menus getting in the way of the work screen.

Excellent deal for the price! Pretty much top of the line. Love it! You will be very happy!! All around great computer. Everything is good except the shinny body and keyboard which literally absorbs fingerprints.Be ready to clean this laptop every 2 days. Other than that it is perfect. The battery life is pretty good for the 17.3 incher, it last for up too 2.5 hours of normal use. Gamers will appreciate that this machine easily handles GTA IV at near 720p resolution.

Review HP Pavilion DV6 Series 15.6-Inch Laptop (Windows 7)

The DV6-1350US has all the features I was looking for including the new DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2 and Bluetooth. I also like having the 12 cell battery pack attached. This laptop has it all. I thought my replacement laptop would be a second Mac since I bought a Mac for my wife six months ago. I decided it was time to upgrade my laptop and looked for several weeks for the right combination of price, hard drive, RAM, Bluetooth, battery, numeric keypad, etc.

On the power, charge, and HD indicators, when any one LED is lit they kind of bleed over to the others, making it difficult to determine if they are truly lit or not. I do however like the lit indicators for volume & wireless;

Another item which may be an issue for some is that the back of the screen has a very bright HP logo when the computer is on. It is not software configurable, but an internet search revealed that there is a cable inside which can be disconnected to cut the light. I may do this or cover it with black tape.

The fan runs relatively quietly, and can also be configured in the BIOS.

Graphics - The more expensive 1361SB and the 1360US both sport an integrated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 which is vastly superior to the usual low-end graphics that plague notebooks.

Review HP Pavilion DV4-1433US


I have been very happy with it. It comes with the Windows 7 upgrade which is just a few days away on Oct 22. 4GB ram which can upgrade to 8GB, along with the 320 GB hard drive 7200 rpm makes it very responsive. Also for wireless connectivity to the web, it has the latest wireless "N" but backwards compatible to "G" and "B" also. Battery life has been good, keyboard has a nice feel to it too. Movies and music excellent played through this laptop and also has a remote control for controlling your media from a distance. HDMI out for displaying onto your tv is a nice feature also.
Things I wanted: Perfect for entertainment and game usage and very good deal for college students.

1.) BIG positive - runs so much cooler! I'm sure all laptops have improved with changing technology, but I feel no heat coming out of this machine (which means it runs faster). I have my other laptop sitting next to it (about 1 1/2 years old) and it is so hot it could melt something.
2.) Great price for the features you are getting (speed, size hard drive etc.)
3.) Built-in webcam is a lot of fun (and practical too, I guess).
4.) Volume controls are so clear and accessible (my other laptops were difficult for my child to find, subjecting me to loud screaming car racing programs on too many occasions!
5.) I got the white version and it just looks cool IMHO.
